Crash Avoidance System to be Added to the GMC Terrain

General Motors is implementing a brand new safety feature to its GMC Terrain SUV series, a camera mounted to the top of the windshield which uses alerts to warn drivers away from potential collisions. The high resolution digital camera is capable of identifying both lane markings and the position of nearby vehicles, allowing it to anticipate any imminent dangers in advance. The driver is notified through either a visual or audible warning when their vehicle is trailing too close or if their car exits its lane without signaling. Available for $295, the GMC Terrain is the first of three models to adopt this revolutionary crash avoidance system. The company expects to add this option to the Cadillac SRX and the Chevrolet Equinox at some point later this year.

According to estimates brought forth by the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS), more than a quarter of the nearly 6 million annual traffic incidents can be attributed to rear-end collisions. Furthermore, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has gone on record to state that many of these accidents are the result of inattentive drivers and negligence of proper safety procedures. In response to these statistics, GM has developed a system that helps drivers maintain awareness of potential hazards and react accordingly. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given an endorsement of the new system, indicating it may result in a reduction of such incidents.

GMC Sierra 3500HD Wins Best Overall HD Truck

The GMC Sierra 3500HD won PickupTrucks.com's "Heavy Duty Hurt Locker "comparison test, a grueling showdown among industry heavyweights that included towing 19,000-pound fifth-wheel trailers up and over some of the most demanding grades in the United States.

"We procured similarly equipped trucks from Ford, Ram and GMC and put them through the paces towing up and down some of the toughest grades in the country covering a total of 2,200 miles," said Mike Levine, editor of PickupTrucks.com. "When we analyzed the data, the GMC Sierra 3500HD simply outperformed the trucks from Ford and Ram."

"Customers choose full-size trucks for their capabilities," said Rick Spina, vehicle line executive for full-size trucks. "So for 2012, we built on the foundation created in 2011, with engineering changes and additional validation designed to make the most capable heavy-duty pickup even better. Based on PickupTrucks.com's test results, it looks like we got the job done."

IntelliLink to be Introduced in 2012 Models

Gone are the days when a cell phone was chosen purely by its ability to place and receive calls.  With the advent of the smartphone, having apps that combine practicality with functionality are swiftly becoming the norm.  Smartphones such as the iPhone and Android allow us to read the newspaper, watch YouTube videos, and get directions all with the touch of a button.

GM is looking to cash in on the smartphone craze, and directly compete with the Ford SYNC, with its MyLink system that is scheduled to come out later this year on Chevrolet models, and will soon be expanding it into the Buick and GMC brands.  It is being changed to IntelliLink for  new Buick and GMC models, but will be virtually identical to MyLink.  The newest models to feature this top of the li ne technology are the 2012 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, and Verano, and the 2012 GMC Terrain.
