Playing Hoops With Shaq and a Lacrosse...No really.

If you've seen the new Buick Lacrosse commercials on television recently, you may have noticed a very famous (and large) athlete behind the wheel of it.

Shaquille O'neal is the new face of the campaign from GMC and Buick featuring the sedan. Coincidentally, the LaCrosse has all of the top of the line features and space someone as large and powerful as Shaq would enjoy.

Considering all of this, a question comes to...

Watch Out, Buick's Coming!

Watch out, automakers, there is a new sheriff in town.  One of GM's brands is becoming the hottest name in the American car market today.  Buick is quickly winning over customer support with their brand overhaul and marketing strategies.

Take note, Ford, Dodge, Honda, and Toyota, because Buick has been taking over 40% of its sales from consumers who used to be part of other manufacturers' customer bases, and there is a good chance that they have taken customers right out from under your nose.

After the days of the legendary Skylark and Grand National, Buick went on the back-burner as its more publicized big brother Chevrolet and competitors Chrysler and Ford jockeyed for position of highest selling brand in America.  Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Toyota's arrivals in the states from the Land of the Rising Sun only served to cause Buick to become even more neglected by the American consumer.

Buick Sales Surge 44 Percent in January

Buick, the fastest-growing major automotive brand in the United States in 2010, started the new year with its 16th straight month of retail sales gains, delivering a 44 percent increase over last January. The brand's total January sales also improved 32 percent year over year.

"After a solid 2010, Buick is on track for another year of continuous growth," said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Buick & GMC Sales and Service. "We fully…

GM Plans Hybrid Option for Buick Regal & Lacrosse

GM has a new hybrid system they think can raise fuel economy about 25% higher. It's called eAssist. GM already plans to offer this technology in the 2012 Buick LaCrosse and now, they've announced it for the Buick Regal.

eAssist is a power management system that aids a gasoline engine. Normal power comes from a 180 hp 2.4-liter Ecotec delivered through a 6-speed auto. Also, there is a 115V lithium-ion battery that powers a 15 KW motor-generator unit to provide up to 15 hp and nearly 80 lb-ft torque of assist during acceleration. Having a motor-generator also allows for recuperation during braking and the battery allows for auto start-stop of the engine at idle.

Other modifications to the Buick LaCrosse eAssist include improved underbody panels and an active front air-flow shutter to keep the sedan's coefficient of drag as...

Avoid Lane Change Mishaps In The 2010 Buick LaCrosse

How many times have you found yourself driving down the highway and you go to change lanes and you find a car in your blind spot? These kinds of close calls can be pretty nerve-racking, but thanks to a new side blind zone alert system on the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, you can relax.

Helping you to prevent those all-too-frequent near misses is Buick's Side Blind Zone Alert system. It works by displaying a small orange icon in the side mirrors of the new LaCrosse. It uses radar-equipped sensors that provide and extra set of "eyes" that monitor your vehicle's blind spots.

But how often do these kinds of blind spot incidents occur? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that improper lane changes are a factor in up to 85 percent of all crashes.

"The blind zone technology system enables the car to see where it is difficult for the driver to see," said Kent Lybecker, a GM active safety systems engineer. "This technology makes lane changes safer because it alerts driver's to vehicles that otherwise might escape their vision."

When the Side Blind Zone Alert system detects another vehicle in the adjacent lane, the system will illuminate an orange symbol in the side view mirror that alerts the driver to a potential collision. If the driver activates the turn signal in the direction of the detected vehicle, the symbol will start to flash. Otherwise it will remain illuminated until the detected vehicle has left the blind zone.

The system works by using alternating radar beams that span outward from the LaCrosse, and cover a zone of about one lane width on both sides of the LaCrosse. The radar also covers approximately 10 feet in the rear of the Lacrosse for an added layer of protection.

The Buick Lacrosse is one of 27 new vehicles to be named a Top Safety Pick for 2010 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  The award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting occupants in front, side, rear and rollover crashes based on Institute testing.

Although Side Blind Zone Alert is intended to help drivers avoid lane change mishaps, the driver still needs to turn to check blind zones manually before changing lanes.

"Buick is Back!" - MotorTrend

For the first time in 28 years, Buick is all over the front page of Motor Trend magazine. The headline declares "Buick is Back!" The April issue features photos of the new Lacrosse, Regal Turbo, and the Regal GS Concept car.

The April issue of Motor Trend magazine includes two Buick features. The first being a drive review of the new 2011 Regal and the other being a comparison of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse and the 2010 Lexus ES350, where the LaCrosse emerges the winner. Buick is really starting to prove that it is a modern, premium brand is characterized by sculpted designs, personal technologies, luxurious interiors, and responsive performance.

The Regal will be available in Buick dealerships this spring. It features a dynamic driving experience with a standard 2.4L Ecotec direct injection engine that is rated at an estimated 182 horsepower. Later this year, a 2.0L turbocharger Ecotec engine will be available with an estimated 220 horsepower. Customers will experience a number of advanced personal technologies, making it a premium sport sedan without the premium price. The pricing for the 2011 Buick Regal starts at $26,995.

The new for 2010 Lacrosse, is a luxury midsize sedan that has continued to attract buyers to Buick and the 2010 model is selling three times faster than the last generation of the LaCrosse. The car has received praise for its exterior styling and luxurious interior and features a collection of advanced person technologies; safety features that rate among the best in the industry.

In Angus Mackenzie's review of the 2011 Buick Regal, he says "the Regal is the first Buick in history with internationally chic sheet metal and sophisticated road manners to match," and that it "is truly likely to appeal to young, affluent, trend-setting import buyers."

The U.S. marketing vice president for Buick GMC said, "We are thrilled to be honored with placement of Buick models on the cover of Motor Trend." "The declaration that 'Buick is Back' attests the transformation of the Buick brand and the buzz building for the LaCrosse and Regal. It shows that we are introducing car the merit the attention of auto enthusiasts, including the editors of Motor Trend."

Why Buick is the Brand to Watch

Two years ago you could have told me that Buick would be one of the star brands of General Motors and I would have laughed hysterically. Despite my status as an industry and GM follower, Buick has always been the GM brand that I looked at and said, "Oh, they still sell those?" My how things can change. Today it is becoming clearer every day that Buick is the brand to be watching at New GM.

I think a lot of people took notice of Buick back when the Enclave launched, but many people (myself included), assumed that it was going to be a one-hit wonder for the brand. After all, GM's previous brand "renaissance" consisted of a one hit wonder as well: the Cadillac CTS. Needless to say, it was easy to make the assumption that Buick's renaissance was not going to be anything worth writing home about, despite GM management clamoring over the brand's bright future.

Then late 2008 rolls around and the Buick Enclave is announced by JD Power as the fastest selling product in the United States, staying on dealership lots an average of six days or less. Most of the mainstream press failed to report that fact and rightfully so considering how long Buick has been irrelevant in North America. Reflecting back on that report today I realize that should probably go down in the books as the initial sign that Buick has some life left in it after all...

2010 Buick Lacrosse and Enclave Named Best Buys

The 2010 Buick Lacrosse and 2010 Buick Enclave were named "best buys" by Consumer Guide.  The Best Buy and Recommended Consumer Guide annual awards are chosen by Consumer Guide's staff of ten full-time automotive editors.  They evaluated the vehicles on factors including performance, handling, reliability, ease of use, comfort, ability to meet everyday needs and value for the dollar.

The Lacrosse and Enclave excelled in every facet of the testing, and proved that Buick will lead General Motors into the future of luxury vehicles.  Brian Sweeney, GM's manager of Buick and GMC said, "These awards are great recognition for the LaCrosse and Enclave.  Our goal with these vehicles has been to bring new buyers to Buick, and customers are getting that message, because the Enclave and new LaCrosse are selling quickly off dealer lots. This award is proof that our efforts are paying off."

Brian Sweeney hit the mark with his statement, Arbogast Buick in Dayton can barely keep the Lacrosse and Enclave on the lot.  Customers are raving over the styling and performance of both vehicles.  It is exciting to see Buick leading the pack, and getting recognized for its hard work.
