2015 GMC Canyon Named Autoweek’s Best of the Best Truck for 2015

TruckWhat’s your truck like?

Do you treat it like a child?

Love it like its a member of the family?

Have it tricked out with an awesome sound system and custom rims?

Well, even if that’s the case, it still isn’t the best, because that title has been awarded to the GMC Canyon. The midsize truck has been named Autoweek’s Best of the Best Truck for 2015.

The editors of Autoweek praised GMC for the Canyon’s compact design, its utility, features and its “perfect size.” This is notable at first glance. The GMC Canyon isn’t a monster that will leave your wallet empty every time you need to refill the gas tank, nor is it one of those vehicles people buy to take up the whole lane on the freeway and feel proud of themselves as they intimidate other motorists in their tiny Hondas. The GMC Canyon has been designed with functionality in mind, without skimping on style.

“It’s truly a truck in the most honest sense…but refuses to forego the requirements a modern buyer has in a vehicle: refinement, modern conveniences and amenities, high-quality build, practicality and style,” Autoweek’s editors said, who also mentioned that the Canyon is a truck that is “brimming with a near-luxury experience.”

The honor isn’t just handed out by Autoweek all willy-nilly, either. The Best of the Best truck is selected from a list of eight finalists. These trucks are chosen based on evaluations by the company that analyze and compare their performance, design, build quality, value and overall significance. Then, during a three-day test period at Michigan International Speedway, the editors determine the recipients of the award, which are one truck and one car.

Hundreds of vehicles are tested each year, but only a few truly stand out and receive such recognition. Autoweek editor Wes Raynal says, “The GMC Canyon is not only one of the best new vehicles on the market, it’s one of the most important, signaling an exciting return to the mid-sized truck segment.” This was an effort that was certainly part of GMC’s goals when designing the Canyon. Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing, says that Delivering class-leading capabilities with GMC’s signature refinement was our goal for Canyon from Day One and Autoweek’s recognition affirms our instincts. It’s an efficiently sized, maneuverable package for those who want the cargo-hauling and trailering versatility of a pickup, combined with modern amenities and connectivity today’s customers tell us they expect.”

Canyon starts at $21,880 and is available in base, SLE and SLT models, and in extended cab and crew cab body styles.
