2015 GMC Canyon Offers Segment-Leading Fuel Economy

2015 could prove a very good model year for truck owners if GMC fuel economy is any indication. Based on EPA estimates, the 2015 GMC Canyon will lead its class in fuel economy. This midsize pickup truck will get 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

Like others in its class, the 2015 GMC Canyon will offer a V-6 with an automatic transmission. Unlike the others, however, the GMC truck will get 3 to 5 mpg more on the highway. Some cars can’t even match the highway fuel economy of this midsized GMC pickup.

The addition of the Canyon solidifies GMC’s status as a leading provider of truck model choices. GMC already offers the GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali as light duty choices. It offers heavy duty choices including the Sierra 2500HD, Sierra 2500 Denali HD, Sierra 3500HD and Sierra 3500 Denali HD.

GMC engineers used a combination of direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing to achieve better gas mileage. Without having to apply expensive technology to get results, the trucks can offer lower prices to consumers. This offers a win/win of a lower MSRP than a full-sized truck plus the great fuel economy of the Canyon. GMC is making aerodynamic shutters available for those who want to improve gas mileage even more.

Engineers did not sacrifice power to achieve fuel economy either. The V-6 engine is a powerful 3.6L model that cranks out 305 horsepower. These trucks should perform well under pressure. They can tow up to 7,000 pounds, beating rivals Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline. They also offer payloads of up to 1,600 pounds, which is also best-in-class A tow/haul mode helps the engine cope with heavier payloads. Automatic grade braking and Hill Start Assist will help drivers cope with hilly driving.

Midsized, the 2015 GMC Canyon offers greater maneuverability than its larger cousins. The extended cab comes with a 6’2” bed. The crew cab comes with a choice of the 6-footer or a 5’2” bed. Special exterior features include the EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgate and built-in Corner Steps.

Offering best-in-class technology, the GMC Canyon features a standard rearview camera. 4G-LTE will let passengers surf the web on their devices. A large touchscreen will make it simple for drivers to interface with audio choices. Bluetooth makes phone calls and audio streaming easy. Safety extras include warning systems for forward collision dangers and lane departures.

The 2015 GMC Canyon will make its way into showrooms this fall. In 2016, a turbo diesel is expected to join the line-up. Clearly GMC has upped its game with the introduction of the totally redesigned Canyon.
