2015 GMC Canyon Spied in Colorado

The all-new GMC Canyon, the next generation midsize pickup from General Motors, was recently spotted being tested along the I-70 in Colorado.

This comes after the new GMC Canyon was unveiled at the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The GMC Canyon was spotted on the I-70 in Colorado with most of its body covered in addition to the intricate vertical pattern on its doors. It is highly probable that the GMC Canyon was being taken for a test drive on the I-70 before production begins in 2014.

About the GMC Canyon

The new GMC Canyon spotted on the I-70 is part of the new lineup of GM diesel midsize pickups. This set of midsize diesel pickup trucks will be different from the full-size pickup trucks that enjoy a sizable proportion of the North America market share. The GMC Canyon will offer unprecedented versatility with its new features and design as a midsize pickup. It is predicted to come with next-generation features such as vibrating seats and other active safety systems offered in other current generation GM models. Even more importantly is the diesel engine which the GMC Canyon will be outfitted with, which will be either 2.5 or 2.8 liter four cylinder engines.

Midsize pickups already have diesel engines in international markets, but GM has not offered a pickup truck with a diesel engine in North American markets so far. This will be important to the success of the GMC Canyon as the diesel engine will allow the midsize pickup to appeal to a broader base of customers. This is particularly significant for the modern urban drivers and car buyers, for which fuel efficiency is a decisive factor in their choice in cars. The GMC Canyon will hopefully be able with other fuel efficient cars and midsize trucks such as the Toyota Tacoma. This move also reflects GM’s choice to offer the new GMC Canyon as an industry alternative in order to beat out its competition and revitalize the market for pickup trucks in North America.

Production and Specifications

The GMC Canyon will begin production in 2014 at the Wentzville, Missouri General Motors assembly center. This is following GM’S decision to invest $380 million to expand the assembly center and $133 million to add a new stamping press to the facility in order to prepare for the production of the new GMC Canyon. However, specific features of the pickup, as well as an on-sale date, has not been announced to the public so far.
