2016 GMC Yukon Best Large SUV for Families

If you are in the market for a large SUV, the latest ratings from US News and World Report should help make shopping a little easier. According to ratings in US News Best Cars, the 2016 GMC Yukon is the best large SUV for families.

“The Yukon has the most family-friendly features in the class” says the managing editor, Jamie Page Deaton. That combination of features, plus space and performance earned the Yukon the top spot. Deaton cited the standard Apple CarPlay and WiFi connectivity as important features that helped it win, in addition to great reviews for performance and safety.

All Yukons offer a long list of comfort, convenience and safety features that no doubt contributed to that best-in-class rating. Wireless charging for mobile devices, three rows of seating with room for nine, and dual-zone air conditioning probably helped the Yukon win. Kids and parents will also like the numerous storage bins, pockets and cup and bottle holders.Anyone with a large family can readily understand why the Yukon is a great alternative to a minivan.

While safety was not specifically mentioned, the Yukon line-up does offer a long list of safety features. The child-proof door locks and LATCH system for anchoring child safety seats are great for new parents. The multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes and stability control that come standard are good for every driver and passenger. A standard rear-view camera makes it easier to see what’s just behind the vehicle too. A standard theft deterrent system helps protect both vehicle and contents.

The Yukon line includes two Yukon models and the luxury.performance Denali version. The base Yukon models come in both 2WD and 4WD drive-train versions, so SUV drivers who go off the paved roads have a good option.

The Yukon also gets high marks for reliability, being rated best-in-class for the third year in a row in the 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study.

The Yukon is part of a long GMC history of making safe and dependable vehicles. The Sierra Pickup earned a Five Star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2011. The 2016 Sierra Denali is Truck Trend’s truck of the year. General Motors has been building vehicles for over 100 years, beginning with trucks in 1902. They now offer small and large pickups, small and large SUVs, and vans in a variety of trim levels.
