2017 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Truck Review
The 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is a super hauler. It even has a new Duramax engine choice to put your hauling capability over the top. This heavy duty leader comes in four trims, including the luxury Denali edition.
The new V-8 diesel adds 48 horses and 145 lb.-ft. of torque to its capability. Now it generates 445 horsepower and 910 lb.-ft. That beats the Ram diesel by 60 horses and 10 lb.-ft. It beats the Ford diesel by five horses. With fifth-wheel trailering, tow ratings hit 15,900 pounds.
A new hood scoop does more than add curb appeal. The diesel’s power production utilizes this air-intake system for maximum capability. The new engine block is stronger for greater durability. An electronic turbocharger control and a new torque converter are aboard. A damped steel oil pan and revised rocker cover reduce engine noise.
If your hauling efforts don’t need such high torque, the standard Vortec engine is a good pick. The six-liter V8 kicks out 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. An automatic locking rear differential ensures better handling. Top payload is 3,381 pounds. The top tow rating is 13,000 pounds, rising to 14,500 pounds for fifth-wheel trailering.
Among its exclusive features, the Sierra offers its CornerStep rear bumper on every edition. The bed comes with four tie-downs, and most editions have the EZ Lift and Lower tailgate. GM is the only manufacturer to make a WiFi hotspot available on every truck. Unlike Ram trucks, the Sierra 2500 is offering the latest crash avoidance technologies. This includes a forward collision alert and a lane departure warning with GM’s exclusive Safety Seat. The lane change assist adds a blind spot monitor.
Despite its emphasis on all things powerful and technological, the GMC Sierra 2500 offers high quality cabins and today’s favorite comforts. For starters, seats are made with dual-density foam, ensuring a better ride across town or across the state. Available amenities include a heated steering wheel and climate-controlled seats. Higher editions may add a durable soft-touch instrument panel and leather upholstery. Doors have been triple-sealed to shut our noise. Hydraulic body and engine construction techniques also reduce vibration.
The available IntelliLink 8-inch touchscreen comes with Bluetooth streaming audio and HD radio. Every buyer enjoys the GMC mobile remote app thanks to a five-year free subscription. To reduce clutter, you can also opt for a wireless charger.
With so much to offer, the 2017 Sierra 2500 will make a hardworking, durable member of any team. Handsome interiors and exclusive features sweeten the deal.
