Almost 70 percent of Cascada Buyers are New to Buick Brand
The Buick Cascada may not be Buick’s and GM’s biggest seller, but it is pulling its weight in attracting buyers who have never owned a Buick or GMC. Nearly 70 percent of the 7,151 Cascadas sold in 2016 were to people who never bought the Buick brand previously. Considering the Cascada’s style and affordability, its easy to see why new customers are gravitating towards it.
The Cascada is a sporty, two-door convertible. The available 20-inch, black-spoke wheels give the car real flair. Even the color choices are flashy, including Rioja Red Metallic, Dark Moon Blue Metallic, and Carrageen Metallic. The drop top comes in Ebony, Malbec, and Sweet Mocha. Buyers can also choose the Sport Touring Dark Effects Package, which gives trendy drivers the chance to more fully express their personality through their color choice.
The Cascada’s style fits in with Buick’s mission to re-brand itself as a fresh, youthful brand. Long mired by a reputation as a brand for senior citizens, Buick has worked hard to win over the younger generations, and its Cascada is leading the way. The sales numbers demonstrate that Buick’s strategy is working, with 230,000 units sold in 2017, compared to a dismal 155,000 in 2010. Consumers are viewing Buick as a reliable, near-luxury choice with vehicle options offering some panache.
The Cascada doesn’t just look pretty, it performs with a turbocharged 1.6-liter, 200-horsepower engine. Torque power stands at 206-lb feet, providing the acceleration that allows the Cascada to keep up with cars in its class. For those that want to outshine the other speed demons on the road, the Cascada’s Overboost feature temporarily boosts the Cascada’s torque to 221-lb feet. The Cascada is clearly built with the younger generations in mind.
The four-passenger Cascada is rated at 27 MPG and its MSRP starts at around $33,000. It earned a 5-star safety rating by NHTSA. For safety technology, it offers automatic roll-over pop-up bars and available forward-collision alert and Lane Departure Warning. Other technology includes Intellilink with available navigation and available 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. The drop top also opens in 17 seconds at speeds up to 31 miles-per-hour.
With its leather appointed interior, fast pickup, sporty flair, and innovative technology, the Cascada is a far cry from an elderly driver’s sedan. The Cascada’s sales demonstrate that consumers who previously eschewed Buick in favor of trendier brands are being won over by Buick’s campaign to re-brand itself as a stylish purveyor of luxury vehicles at less-than-luxury prices. Buick is on track with its marketing campaign and consumers can expect to see more flair and style from the brand in the future.
