Benefits of Synthetic Oil Over Conventional Oil

Synthetic Oil BenefitsMany people understand that, along with conventional crude oil, they also have the option to use a synthetic or man-made oil in their vehicle. However, many people may not understand the benefits of doing so, and there are many.

The first benefit to note is that because synthetic oil can be made of many different stock oils and modified petroleum compounds instead of crude oil, synthetic oil can provide environmental benefits, reducing the carbon footprint created.

Synthetic oil also generally keeps an engine cleaner than conventional oil, because conventional oil picks up many impurities and nasty particles as it circulates through an engine, which can cause the formation of thick sludge that will reduce the efficiency and overall lifetime of your engine. Who wants that? Because synthetic oils are manmade, many of them have been customized to circulate through an engine more quickly and efficiently, collecting much less debris along the way. This limits the gunk and grime and keeps your engine running smoothly for longer.

However, the biggest difference between conventional oil and synthetic oil is its performance benefits. Unlike conventional oil, synthetic oil is distilled, and its molecular structure is broken down into its most basic form. Most of the impurities from the crude oil are removed, but more importantly, this allows individual oil molecules to be adjusted to the needs of each individual engine it serves. This can allow synthetic oils to protect against circulation issues in the cold while resisting evaporation in the heat. Or, it can be designed to protect valuable performance parts, such as turbochargers, from overheating when pushed to their limits. With more and more vehicles being released with smaller engines to boost fuel efficiency while adding turbochargers to provide sufficient power, keeping them protected has never been more important, and synthetic oil will always perform better in that regard. In addition, the increased circulation mentioned above, your engine can produce more horsepower and greater torque with synthetic oil.

There are other advantages of synthetic oil, as well, such as better lubrication for more prompt starts in the winter, the extension of drain intervals allowing for less oil to be used, and 2-5% better fuel economy in most engines.

So, let’s review. In comparison to conventional oil, synthetic oil protects the environment, keeps your engine cleaner and running longer, improves your fuel efficiency, helps your vehicle start faster in cold weather, increases horsepower and torque, giving you enhanced performance, and the ability to use less oil. Let’s face it: conventional oils are a thing of the past. It’s very clear that if you’re not yet using synthetic oil in your engine, you should be making the switch. The abundant benefits will pay for themselves.
