Buick: I Spy a Crossover

Manufacturers are always extremely secretive about the features and the sensitive release information of highly-anticipated products before they hit the market. Buyers and bloggers are always clamoring to be the first to know exactly what will be in stores before anyone else gets the chance to have the scoop.

It’s hard to forget the scandal in which an Apple employee accidentally left the new iPhone sitting on a counter at a local establishment, leading to the leak of highly-prized secrets meant to build anticipation for the product. While the most hype in this arena is generally built around tablets and phones, there is an equal amount of enthusiasm in the world of car manufacturing as well. The consistently increasing amount of technology which is being built into new cars has more and more people chomping at the bit to know what exactly car companies plan on putting at their fingertips.

These days, it’s even more difficult for car manufacturers to have the ability to test drive their new models on the open road without people raising an eye brow and quickly rushing to the internet to share with the world the specifics of what they could garner from a glimpse at a ground-breaking model of a highly-anticipated car or truck. They do their best to disguise these vehicles using tarps and specially outfitted coverings aimed specifically at secrecy. However, spies are everywhere, and Buick is the latest company to be outed in terms of giving the public a tiny sneak peak of what they have in store for the future.

Apparently, Buick has been busy developing a new, compact crossover that suggests a whole new platform for this type of vehicle. The body itself, highly obscured by camouflage and dark sheathing, appears to be smaller than previous crossover releases from Buick. The pictures indicate that its measurements are below that of the popular Chevy Equinox and the GMC Terrain. The findings also match up with the recent rumors that Buick was hoping to revolutionize their crossover designs by combining the concepts they put in place with Verano and the early Terrain releases. The whispers around the office have this platform labeled as the D2UX.

It is also apparent to most automotive enthusiasts that it is high time that Buick put something in place that exists between the sizes of the monstrous Enclave and the much more compact Encore. There is even talk of the possible model name that lurks in the shadows for this new Buick: the Envision or the Anthem. This venture is not one that is totally unique for Buick, however. In 2009, they had planned on having a release of a similar compact crossover but abandoned such plans due to the poor initial market reaction. Despite this initial failing, such plans now seem to be full steam ahead.
