For decades, the Buick Regal has stood out in its ability to artfully merge sophisticated styling, upscale interior design, premium driving performance, and a high level of affordability. Small wonder that Kelley Blue Book has named the midsize four-door sedan “Best Value Luxury Brand” for four consecutive years. For the 2018 model year, Buick begins the Regal’s sixth generation of production with the introduction of the Sportback, thus turning the nameplate’s hatchback body style into an elegant standalone ride.

The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback showcases a vehicle that has received further exterior refinement. The profile is less bulky and sleeker than ever before, giving the vehicle a coupe-like appearance and a more athletic stance than previous iterations. Design details like flowing chrome accents and dual-exhaust chrome tailpipes highlight the car’s visual confidence. The sculpted LED headlamps come with headlight auto-levelling technology for enhancing visibility. And its five-door layout includes an easily accessible trunk that provides 31.5 cubic feet of space: over twice as much as what the previous model year offers.

Inside, the 2018 Regal Sportback reveals a cockpit-like cabin that feels like it can accommodate more than its maximum occupancy of five people. QuietTuning Technology, a longstanding Buick engineering process, includes all-new tire insulation that further reduces noise from the road. Add soft-touch materials throughout the cabin, customizable seat control, and front-row power adjustability, and the Sportback is primed for long rides of comfort. Plus, a standard 60/40 split-folding rear seat provides the opportunity to expand the amount of cargo space to 60.7 cubic feet. That’s more than what the Audi A5 Sportback and the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe can offer.

The new Buick Regal Sportback is loaded with tech goodies. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can use your iPhone or Android device to execute infotainment functions. You can even charge your phone wirelessly in the Sportback by placing it inside a slot provided in the armrest—no USB ports required. A built-in Wi-Fi hotspot provides Internet access at 4G LTE speeds. And you can enjoy your music from the 7-inch infotainment system. Other standard interior features on the Sportback include remote keyless entry, push-button engine start, 10 air bags, and a transceiver for remote-controlling home features like garage doors and security systems.

The 2018 Sportback is propelled by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and comes with start/stop technology. Power goes to the front wheels from a brand-new 9-speed automatic transmission. And you have the option of getting an all-wheel drivetrain, which allows you to opt for an 8-speed automatic gearbox and produces 295 lb-ft of torque.

The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback will be available in four trims: Regal, Preferred, Preferred II, and Essence. It is expected to storm Dave Arbogast Buick GMC in the fourth quarter of 2017.
