Buick Makes Listening To Audio Books Easier
Audio books are now more convenient and popular than ever thanks to smartphones and the Internet. Audio books allow you catch up on your reading without having to divert all your attention to a printed page or screen. This makes them a perfect option for listening while driving a car.
Buick has introduced new technology and programs that allow drivers to take advantage of audio books while on the road. It is now possible to listen to audio books through your car. One way to do this is through the Apple CarPlay technology appearing in the Regal and LaCrosse models in 2016. You just have to plug in a compatible Apple iPhone with a universal serial bus, or USB, cable. You can then bring up a special app on the IntelliLink dashboard screen to select and play your audio book.
Listening to audio books is also possible without an iPhone and in other models of Buick cars. If you are driving in a Verano, Enclave or Encore, then your vehicle has Bluetooth capability. This means you can use the app on any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone to stream the audio wirelessly to the speakers in the vehicle. The make and operating system of the phone does not matter.
The book is streamed through the smartphone while you are driving. You can use a regular cellular data connection or you could connect to the hotspot in the Buick. Connecting to the hotspot generally means faster download speeds and a more stable connection. New Buick owners actually get three months or 3 gigabytes of data free when first buying the vehicle.
Buick has teamed up with a website known as Audiobooks.com in order to enhance the experience of drivers. Audiobooks.com has been integrated into the new OnStar AtYourService platform. The platform gives drivers the ability to use apps or talk to a live person in order to find local discounts, book hotel rooms or find new audio books. You do need to have an active OnStar account in order to access some of these features.
An added bonus to get drivers excited about the new service is that free books are available for Buick owners. Anyone who has a current OnStar subscription can use the service to get two audio books for completely free. You will own those two audio books forever online and you can listen to them as many times as you want.
The introduction of audio books to Buicks is not completely random. Marketing studies have shown that people who drive Buicks are about 30 percent more likely to enjoy reading books as a pastime than people who own other brands of cars. This latest introduction and promotional offer are part of Buick’s plan to offer drivers a broader range of practical services and options while on the road.
