A New Buick Regal Wagon May Be Coming Soon

Faithful fans of the classic American SUV have been waiting for several years now for Buick to update its current line of Regal models. Ever since the Insignia model reached the dealerships, they’ve been clamoring for a new, improved version, complete with all of the bells and whistles that have come to be associated with General Motors SUV models. As it turns out, the long wait may indeed be finally coming to an end – with “may” being the operative word here.

New Patents Have Been Filed, But What Do We Know?

A new report has just been released by Auto Guide, which proves that Buick has filed, not one but two, new trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. What are these patents for? The report lists two trademarks for “Motor land vehicles, namely automobiles.” More intriguingly, the trademarks also include the phrases “Tour X” and “Regal X.”

In General Motors terminology, “Tour” usually refers to a wagon model, while “X” usually indicates an all wheel drive vehicle. Putting two and two together – assuming we’re justified in speculating here – the trademarks listed above might just be referring to the future unveiling of an updated version of GM’s very popular line of SUVs, particularly their Regal wagon models.

Will It Happen, Or Won’t It?

However, before Buick Regal wagon fans get too excited about these new trademark initiatives on GM’s part, it’s important to remember that this isn’t the first time the company has made moves in this direction. Eagle eyed fans might just recall that, early in 2015, Buick filed trademarks on behalf of something they were calling the “Regal Sport Touring” vehicle. This previous trademark included a description for said vehicle that was very close to their current filing.

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that auto makers, American and foreign alike, file patents and trademarks with regularity. The mere fact that a new trademark has been filed for an upcoming vehicle doesn’t guarantee that the vehicle will ever actually see the light of day. However, given that Buick has filed two very similar trademarks in a relatively short span of time, it does give speculators some justification to assume that something major is in the works. What this new development will actually amount to remains to be seen.
