BuyPower Card from Capital One Debuts New Ad Campaign

August 10th, 2014 by

BuyPower Card from Capital OneGeneral Motors (GM) has launched a new promotional campaign for the BuyPower Card, a credit card that lets consumers earn points for the purchase of a new vehicle. The card is issued through Capital One and lets card members earn five percent cash back for up to $5,000 in purchases. Beyond the limit, two percent can be earned on an unlimited amount of purchases as well. In some cases, this card can help consumers save up enough points by the time they buy their next vehicle to buy it outright with only the points. These points can be applied to any GM vehicle, which includes Buick, GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac.

Since the program has been a success in the past couple of years, the company has decided to launch a new promotional campaign starting August 4th 2014. The advertisements will debut in a multi-channel campaign that will include print advertisements, online, and television commercials.

The ad agency MRM/McCann will be leading the start of the campaign with a 30-second co-branded commercial focused on promoting the card. The advertisement showcases how the card gives users access to “new car smell” and the “freedom of the open road”. The advertisement then proceeds to demonstrate how the card gives users up to five percent cash back on purchases that can be credited toward a GM vehicle purchase.

The advertisements in the campaign will seek to inform consumers that there are no annual fees or earning limits associated with their card. With one of these cards, consumers are able to quickly grow an account to accumulate earnings that can be credited to the purchase of a GM vehicle. Most people today have credit cards, but most of they offer only small cash rewards in exchange for using them. In many cases, the amounts that can be earned are limited to just a small percentage at only certain times of the year. Since most people are not aware of this offering from GM, the goal will be to inform these individuals to increase interest in GM cars through this new offering.

This is just the first segment of the promotional campaign, and more will certainly be coming in future months. With operations in more than 30 countries, GM will be launching this campaign internationally as well. Savvy ad watchers can expect to see these advertisements online through banner advertisements and certain text-based advertisements. Certain magazines will also be carrying advertisements for the BuyPower Card as well in the coming months. Promoting both GM and Capital One, this promotional campaign is looking like a win-win for everyone involved.
