Choosing the Right Pickup Truck

Pick-up trucks come in all shapes, sizes, and styles, so picking one to buy isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Every individual has a certain list of must-haves for their ideal truck when vehicle shopping and the one which ends up having a majority of the attributes usually is the one which gets driven home from the dealership.

Narrowing down the choices is the hard part because most people want it all and only have a limited amount of money to spend. If you’re looking to buy a new pick-up truck, here’s what you’ll need to think about if you want to leave with the right one.

Cab Size

The first thing that you should consider is cab size. Do you plan on using the truck alone, or will you have to drive around with a lot of passengers? If you don’t plan on bringing anyone else other than your significant other or best friend along for the ride, go with a standard cab. This configuration gives you two seats–one for the driver, one for a passenger. If you need more space inside the cabin, take a look extended cab styles. You’ll be able to use the extra space behind the seats to store things. If you have a family or plan on chauffeuring friends around, the crew cab is your best bet. This style features seating for five. The GMC Canyon is an excellent entry-level pick-up that comes in all cab sizes.

Storage

One of the most attractive features of a pick-up truck is its cargo box. The cargo box can be used to store and transport a variety of different things, but you’ll need to decide what type is most suitable for your needs. If you plan on moving a lot of large, long objects, an eight-foot box in the standard configuration should give you plenty of space. For smaller objects that are less oddly-shaped, a five-foot stepside box should work just fine. Stepsides have flared fenders that take up a bit of box space where the wheels are positioned.

Power

Trucks are heavy-duty machines that are designed to do work. If you plan on hauling a lot of stuff around, consider getting a more powerful engine that can move a lot of weight. Go with an eight-cylinder pushing 300+ hp if you plan to use your truck for hard labor. If you want an everyday vehicle that won’t do much hauling, a four-cylinder producing 160 hp should be more than sufficient.

Aesthetics

Looks might not mean much to some, but they are everything to others. If you prefer to have the whole package, go with premium trims of high-powered pick-ups. A car that looks good and performs like a champ has it all, and the GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali is a prime example of that.

Cost

Price is something that can make or break a deal because most people have a limited budget. If you want a pick-up that is reliable, durable, handsome, and affordable, the GMC Canyon is hard to beat. However, if you’re willing to spend a bit more leisurely, the standard Sierra line offers the best bang for your buck.
