Corvette Valet Mode

The latest model of the Chevy Corvette has many outstanding features. Perhaps one of the coolest and most intriguing is the valet mode. General Motors equipped the 2015 model of the Corvette with an exclusive feature that will put driver’s minds at ease whenever they have to turn over their keys for valet parking.

Once the valet mode is activated, a data recorder records any audio and video that takes place inside the cabin of the car. In addition, data from the vehicle will also be recorded such as what gear position the car is in, the speed of the vehicle, g-force and engine RPM. A camera that is mounted on the windshield records these activities.

Car owners can also disable the infotainment system and radio on their vehicles as well as lock storage areas and the glove box with the valet feature. Harlan Charles, who is a manager at Corvette, likened this feature to a baby monitor for vehicles. He also claims that this unique feature will help ease car owner’s fears about handing over their keys to a parking valet.  Any recorded video can be immediately viewed on Corvette’s eight-inch color touchscreen display or it can be downloaded to a computer, smartphone or other device. The valet system is easy to operate and works through the menu settings.

To activate the feature, a four-digit code is needed.  Originally, the performance data recorder was created for racetrack drivers to record laps around the track and so they could use the collected data to enhance their driving abilities.  This is an ideal feature for luxury car owners who fear that their valuable sports car is being taken for a reckless high-speed joyride whenever they valet park their car. The valet feature will definitely ease driver’s minds because they are assured that a watchful eye is being kept on their car at all times.  The valet feature was designed as a deterrent.

GM is not the only car manufacturer to come up with this concept. Hyundai and Mercedes offer a similar system that sets a perimeter of where the car is driven. The system will notify car owners via their smartphone if their car has been driven beyond a set perimeter. Corvette’s system takes it a step further by recording audio, video and performance data.

According to General Motors, the valet mode option will be available in September of this year and will be included on all 2015 models of the Chevrolet Corvette.

This impressive and innovative feature is perfect for drivers who are concerned about the safety of their vehicle when they hand their keys over to a parking valet.
