2022 Ford Maverick Overview
The Maverick rides again in the Ford lineup as the newest model small pickup truck to enter the auto scene. Although smaller than the F-150 and Ranger, the new 2022 Ford Maverick is the first pickup in America to come standard with a hybrid drive train. The new model comes in 3 trims- XL, XLT, and LARIAT. All models are crew cabs with four full doors and room to seat five. For those consumers looking for the conveniences of a truck but the gas consumption of a 4-cylinder, the Ford Maverick Truck is a great option. Let’s review some of the features it offers.
The roomy cab ensures comfort for all five passengers by reducing the middle hump. There’s sufficient leg space for every rider. The XL comes with an eight-inch touchscreen, pre-wired connections, and cloth bucket seats. One step further, the XLT adds cruise control and a more custom interior. The LARIAT, at the top level of comfort, includes dual-zone temperature control, leather steering wheel, and vinyl bucket seats. All trims on the Ford Maverick come with additional door-pocket storage and rear under-seat storage.
The Ford Maverick 2022 has a multi-position tailgate allowing truck owners to haul long materials or use the bed for recreational activities. The bed also has outlets and wires capable of charging phones, coolers, and other electric devices. The XL incorporates six tie-downs for cargo, while the XLT and LARIAT have ten tie-downs. Towing capacity is set to 2,000 pounds.
With a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, the result is 191 horsepower. The official EPA rating stands at 42 MPG city and 33 MPG highway. Having these stats will make it the most fuel-efficient pickup truck on the market. Not known for its speed, the Ford Maverick Truck goes from 0 to 60 in 7 seconds.

Additional Options Available
- 2.0L EcoBoost Engine- For those looking for a little bit more power, this option increases the horsepower to 250.
- FX4 Off-Road Package- This package includes front tow hooks, descent control, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and five drive modes. The Maverick must have the 2.0 EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive to select this package.
- 4K Tow Package- With a trailer hitch and a seven-pin connector, the tow package increases the towing capacity to 4,000 pounds. This package also requires the 2.0 EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive to select.
There are several driver-assisted options available, but some will require upgrading an option package or opting for a different trim at more of a cost.
The Ford Maverick 2022 is a solid truck and has excellent gas mileage for a pickup truck. It would best be used as a work truck or hauling lighter recreational items such as bikes or jet skis. The standard options available in the Maverick make it built for convenience and efficiency- extra storage, built-in hotspot, connectivity options, and cargo capacity.
Although the truck size is smaller than the Ford Ranger, it has an affordable starting price. Interestingly, the Maverick shares more of a chassis with the Ford Escape rather than the F-150. According to Car and Driver, the cost of the Maverick hybrid is approximately $7,800 cheaper than an Escape with the same powertrain. Also, the 1,500 lb. payload capability is better than that of a four-door Toyota Tacoma. The 2022 Ford Maverick is positioning itself to be one of the leaders of the new generation of compact trucks.
