GMC Has Best May Since 2007
General Motors is posting its best April sales numbers in 17 years thanks to strong sales for the Sierra HD, a heavy duty pick-up truck, the Yukon/Denali, a full-sized SUV and the Terrain, a compact SUV. It’s estimated that the increase in raw sales was up nine percent from 2012 and retail sales were up 12 percent.
This truck is, as the name implies, a heavy duty vehicle with a maximum towing capacity of 18,000 pounds and a payload rating of just over 7,000 pounds. It comes in regular and extended cab styles with two or four wheel drive. There is also a light duty version of this model that is seeing strong sales and added to the upswing in GMC’s fortunes.
Sierra sales saw gains in both retail and total sales with growth of over 20 percent in both areas for the best April since 2004. With sales of over 2,000 units, it was the only HD pick-up truck model to see an increase in a share of its segment. It is the only model on the market to receive a five star safety rating for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Yukon/Denali full-sized SUV
This full-sized SUV seats nine people very comfortably, so it’s beloved by families. The third row isn’t just a afterthought, it actually boasts plenty of space for long legs. The engine is a beefy EcoTec3 V-8 that offers great performance and a quiet cabin that is full of luxury and comfort.
This SUV helped GMC sales by spending an average of only 10 days on dealer lots, which is impressive when compared to a 64 day average for similar vehicles. This model accounted for 70 percent of SUV sales in April of this year.
Terrain Compact SUV
This smaller cousin of the Yukon is still roomy and has plenty of storage space. The 2.4L 4-cylinder engine gets an estimated 32 MPG. This model comes with lots of extras including a rear vision camera, a touch radio, and bluetooth for hands free calling.
This model is seen as maturing as GMC moves toward creating more fuel-efficient crossover vehicles. It has steadily gained two percent in sales since it’s release and it’s estimated that overall, sales have gone up 11 percent.
Excellent customer response to GMC products has increased the company’s market share. Kelly Blue Book also recently awarded the company Most Refined Brand as part of the 2014 Brand Image Awards.
