Affordable Mid-Size Truck – GMC Canyon

This year, demand for midsize trucks has exceeded expectations and General Motors is answering the call by looking for ways to put more GMC Canyon vehicles in showrooms around the country. Currently, the Canyon is manufactured at the Wentzville Assembly plant in Missouri. With the increased demand, they have added a third shift to the plant.

GM’s goal is now to assemble an additional 2,000 pickups a month. With a third shift already busy at the plant, they are looking for ways to further increase production given the steady increase in orders. To meet the goals set, GM will hire up to 1,000 more workers for a Saturday and Sunday shift. In addition, they are cutting back on an unpaid 18-minute break, which will add an expected 3,500 more vehicles a year.

Chevy has become the fastest-selling truck in the US over the past three months. During the months of January through April of 2015, they have delivered 35,720 Colorado and Canyon trucks. Dealers have indicated that during the month of May, trucks are spending an average of 12 days in showrooms before being purchased. Statistics indicate that GM buyers are coming from many of the other truck brands. Other truck owners are trading in their vehicles for GMC trucks like the Canyon.

With the mid-size Canyon, GM hopes to bring truck buyers back from their purchases of crossover vehicles. The Canyon offers car-like handling and a sedan-type price. Equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6, the Canyon gives you a maximum 7,000 pounds of towing capacity and a bed length of six feet. It has an EPA rating at 17/24 mpg (CTY/HWY). There are a number of different models available, including 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder, with all-wheel and 4-wheel drive. Trucks come with either extended-cab or a true crew cab with four doors and seating for four adults.

Because of the popularity shown, GMC has come out with a Special Edition model Canyon, the Nighfall. Fitted with 18-inch wheels and inserts, polished exhaust tips, remote start and climate control, the Nighfall Edition is available only in Onyx Black. This vehicle combines great looks with the functionality of a mid-size truck.

The Canyon offers drivers a great deal of flexibility in a vehicle. With room for four adults — and extra cargo space, the Canyon could be your next vehicle. With GM increased production, we should be seeing more on the road very soon.
