GMC Introduces New, Easy-to-Use Trailering Mobile App

GMC continues to make history.

Recently the GMC line of full-sized trucks garnered a nod as the first pickups to receive the coveted 5-star safety rating since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration enacted tougher safety standards in 2011. They also recently announced its 2014 Denali is the star of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” launch.

Now GMC has further secured its image as an innovative company in touch with 21st century consumers with its launch of a trailering guide app.

The app is available through the iTunes store and promises to give customers a better understanding and grasp of trailering capabilities and techniques. Anyone who’s ever backed or pulled a trailer can appreciate the thought behind the app, which includes advice covering a wide range of trailering situations. Advice is doled out regardless of the size of trailer, with suggestions given on anything from a utility trailer all the way up to a fifth-wheel trailer.

The app makers recognize that every situation involving a trailer is different and present options accordingly. Users can sift through information based on either the GMC model or the particular trailer needed for the job. Suggestions are given that identify which specific GMC model best meets the needs unique to each individual job as well as weight ratings unique to each model.

The app is marketed to beginners as well as seasoned veterans to help anyone understand certain considerations and challenges associated with trailering. The “Trailering 101” section provides instructions for those who have never pulled a trailer while the “Pre-trailering Checklist” offers a good reminder for masters and novices alike. Sections on “Hitches and equipment,” “power and performance information,” and “safe trailering techniques” are also useful. For those who want even more insight into trailiering, the section entitled “How GMC trailering technologies work” gives an in-depth explanation of the mechanical aspect of trailering. A separate section gives insight into flat towing, also known as “dinghy” towing. The app also provides a glossary of commonly used trailering terms as well as video content. The company plans to add a series of additional “how to” videos to keep the information fresh and timely.

GMC has often been cited as one of the healthiest brands in the auto industry.
