GMC Reports Best Sales Results Since 2007

It looks like GMC may be all the way back from the hard times of the US economy in 2007 with significant sales increases posted in March, April and May. Officials attributed the sales boost to big jumps in sales for brand leading trucks and crossover sport utility vehicles.GMC Reports Best Sales Results Since 2007

The 2007 crash of the US economy took its toll on auto sales, but GMC last month reported a complete turnaround with April car sales up 8 percent over April 2012. This represented the highest sales volume since 2007. The year-to-year sales volume also increased significantly, going up 7 percent over 2012 with the April figures.

Sales of the full-size Sierra truck led the way with its best sales volume in six years. Those sales went up 17 percent over April 2012. Crossover sales also saw significant increases with the Acadia full-size sport utility vehicle showing a 10 percent increase last month over April 2012, the best month-to-month increase since 2008.

Also contributing to the record sales were a strong showing by the compact Terrain sport utility vehicle first manufactured in 2010. Terrain sales were the best every in April, increasing 3 percent over April 2012.

GMC officials previously said March sales were up 12 percent over 2012, making that the best sales month since 2008. The momentum continued in May with sales results announced on Monday, June 3 showing a 12 percent increase in sales over May 2012 and continued 7 percent year-to-year increase over 2012 to date.

GMC officials said they were pleased with the results and pledged to continue providing top-rate customer service and vehicle performance.

“Credit goes to our network of hard-working dealerships for ensuring a convenient and satisfying experience,” said Brian Sweeney. The GMC sales and service vice-president said the company’s well-engineered SUV’s, crossovers and trucks were connecting with customers.

“It’s more important than ever to provide a positive derive experience and the best customer care to keep them coming back,” Sweeney added.

GMC is one of the first US automakers, dating to 1902. Along with international partners, the company manufactures vehicles in 30 nations. The company repotted revenue of $36.9 billion in the first quarter this year.

“This year is off to a solid start as we increased our global share with strong new products that are attracting customers around the world,” said GM chairman and CEO Dan Akerson.
