Consumers are buying pickup truck right now more than they ever have. Families are using their pickup truck to take the boat on on the lake for the weekend or they are hauling their camper for the summer vacation road trip. Then there is the commercial sector uses the pickup truck for hauling a heavy duty trailer. Whatever the need is, trailer towing is a huge component for the pickup truck. That is why the GMC Sierra has made some serious trailering and hauling enhancements for the 2016 model.

Gooseneck/Fifth Wheel trailering prep package
The GMC Sierra heavy duty trucks offer a new trailer prep package with a seven pin wiring harness for an additional $350. The frame mounted hitch can accommodate a gooseneck or fifth wheel trailer. What’s great about this new platform is that it is hidden underneath the truck bed’s floor. Because GMC knows truck drivers are not always hauling, the hitch is completely removable for those times when the full bed capacity is needed.

Trailering Camera System
Truck owner’s today are looking for a truck that gives them comfort and ease when hauling. The camera system that GMC now offers on the Sierra 1500 and HD trucks helps to monitor blind spots. This is extremely helpful when driving a trailer because the truck side mirrors only allow visibility to a minimal extent. The Sierra is equipped with three cameras; two side views and one rear. The side cameras are integrated with the trailer mirrors and allows for better visibility on each side of the trailer. The rear view camera is wired to the trailer lighting and even allows for an enhanced lowlight image. If needed, the system is designed for a fourth camera setup. All of this camera action is displayed on the screen inside the cab.

Built in Technologies
The technologies that GMC has incorporated into their towing system are really where the comfort and ease of hauling a trailer come into effect. Every model of the Sierra is going to come standard with some awesome features:

  • StabiliTrak -electronic stability control
  • Trailer Sway Control
  • Hill Start Assist -helps driver easily switch from brake to accelerator
  • Four-Wheel Disk Brakes

The GMC Sierra offers some really outstanding optional features such as the new Digital Steering Assist. This feature helps the driver stay in better control of the trailer when driving down the highway. Also great for highway driving is the integrated cruise control and auto grade braking. GMC pretty much thought of everything so that drivers feel comfortable, safe and in control while traveling with a trailer.
