GMC Terrain IntelliLink Now Includes a Standard Tech Geek

When General Motors’ Intellilink connectivity system was introduced in 2012 on the GMC Terrain, it brought motorists Pandora Internet radio capability. Bluetooth hands-free calling and enhanced natural voice recognition were additional features.

Now, in the 2013 GMC Terrain, it already includes expanded features. For example, the available SiriusXM Travel Link is now more useful than ever. In conjunction with Intellilink, it now offers movie times, gas prices, and on-screen weather. Intellilink now offers a variety of additional voice commands. One can give a “thumbs up” to a song on Pandora. A custom MP3 playlist can quickly be created by saying “more like this.”

To help its customers take full advantage of the Intellilink system, GM innovation has now appeared in the form of 25 particularly well-qualified “tech geeks” who are assigned to educate both salespeople and customers alike in the fine points and shortcuts available with Intellilink. GM scoured telecommunications and computer companies to recruit top talent for this first-ever team of “connected customer specialists.” Once again, General Motors has achieved an industry-first with the assembly of this elite team in November 2012.

Adam Luebbers, one of the new connected customer specialists, says of the system, “The Terrain’s IntelliLink is already a very intuitive interface,” “What I like to do is help owners make the most of it to meet their needs and interests. For example, if they love Pandora we’ll show them how to move that on-screen icon to a prominent location.”

Adam further points out, “I also like to point out fun short-cuts. Most users don’t know that instead of browsing into the phone menu, an owner can just say ‘Connect’ with voice command and IntelliLink will start pairing a Bluetooth phone. They’re always amazed by how quick and easy the system is to use.”

Now comes an announcement that GM will double the size of this team of specialists to 50. The additional team members will allow General Motors to assign specialists based on geographic and other localized knowledge that each one possesses.

The Intellilink system offers advanced connectivity on an jncreasing number of GMC models as either a standard or an optional feature. For example, Intellilink is standard on the 2013 Buick Terrain Denali. It is also available on most other Buick Terrain trim lines. It is also available on the Terrain’s “big brother,” the 2013 Acadia three-row crossover. In the summer of 2013, it will appear in the new 2014 Sierra full-size pickups.

With the additional of the Terrain Denali, GMC has now expanded the Denali luxury trim line into all of its retail brands, including the Yukon and Yukon XL.
