GMC Yukon Denali receives New Grille and 10-Speed Transmission

Since 1991, the GMC Yukon has been one of the most attractive large SUVs around—with strong performance, attractive interior, and a high level of security with its build and list of safety features. And the Denali represents the apex of power and convenience with the nameplate. As the top-level trim available on the Yukon, it’s already the only variant that has the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine (which produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque), a 10-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround-sound system, wireless charging ability, and 8-inch touchscreen navigation—among others—as standard features. And now General Motors (GM) is making updates on the Denali for the 2018 model year, most notably the front grille and the transmission tied to the engine.

The new Denali already stands apart from the lower-level trims with unique features that include exterior chrome accents and 20-inch ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels. And that’s in addition to a Denali-specific grille. For 2018, GM introduces a fresh, newly-sculpted design to the front grille that further amplifies the Denali’s distinctiveness. However, it’s not just about aesthetics; the new grille provides greater airflow to the radiator. Couple that with active aero shutters behind it for less aerodynamic drag, and the grille helps engine cooling, a lighter driving feel, and more fuel efficiency.

While more recent model years have used a 6- or 8-speed automatic transmission, the Yukon Denali gets a 10-speed gearbox for the first time. The additional gears not only provide better driving performance due to the smoother, more effortless shifting, but also improved efficiency, since the transmission comes with tap-shift capability to allow you to switch gears manually. Also, the 10-speed includes Tow/Haul mode for reducing shift cycling to ensure better control and improved cooling when towing or hauling heavy loads.

And GM does not stop there regarding the updates. Flanking the new grille of the 2018 Yukon Denali are HID headlights for long-lasting and brighter illumination, with LED lighting for a dash of style—and increased conspicuity on the road—on the front fascia. Also, the Denali now has real Mastique Ash wood trim to accentuate the cabin and give it more of a luxurious feel.

The aforementioned updates join the standard features on the 2018 GMC Yukon Denali, which include remote keyless entry with push-button engine start, StabiliTrak for electronic vehicle stability control, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, remote vehicle start, front-seat heating and ventilating ability, second-row heating, tri-zone automatic climate control, a garage-door opener, leather trim, and advanced safety technology such as a sensor-based front and rear parking assist system and lane change alert with side blind zone alert.
