Intellilink: The Future of Infotainment

October 13th, 2012 by

General Motors innovative IntelliLink system offers in-vehicle smartphone connectivity and much more. It is now standard on all Buick models and it is an available option on the GMC Terrain and Acadia.

Safety and Convenience

IntelliLink converts the vehicle’s seven inch infotainment screen into a mobile command center. Android, IOS, and Blackberry devices all work with the system. Icons on the touch screen can be custom-configured to align with driver preference.

Motorists can keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel thanks to voice-controlled phone and audio functions. Phone calls can be placed via voice command. Likewise, favorite songs and/or artists can be summoned by voice only.

Music Options

Music can be accessed in a number of ways with IntelliLink. A novel feature allows you to enjoy music stored on a flash drive by simply plugging it into the center console’s USB port. Motorists can also enjoy music stored on their MP3 players. Bluetooth streaming is possible by simply pairing your device. Say the word and a world of entertainment options is at your command.

Information captured from the Gracenote database about the relevant artist and album is displayed on the screen. Integrating Gracenote into IntelliLink is a pioneering effort by GM. Lead engineer Tony Kraatz says, “Gracenote is typically limited to devices plugged in to the USB port. With IntelliLink, we are the first company to run Bluetooth streaming audio through the Gracenote database to display album art for music players connected wirelessly.”

Intellilink’s designers have passed on the inclusion of any social networking features or voice-activated texting in a measure to prevent distraction.
