What Changes Are in Store for the 2017 Model Year?

The GMC Sierra 3500HD just received a major overhaul for 2016, so updates to the 2017 model are expected to be light and include minor improvements to items like options package and equipment groups. There is some talk of current packages being rearranged to accommodate new market demands, but GMC is keeping those details quiet for now.

The 2017 GMC Sierra 3500HD is said to be getting a new platform that should provide increased strength and stability, making GMC’s heavy-hauler one of the toughest in the business. There are also rumors of upgrades to the current turbodiesel engine, although whether that will mean a change to the current Duramax engine or a new option is not yet clear. There are no apparent plans to change the current gasoline V8 currently offered as standard equipment.

What Similarities Will It Share with the 2016 Model?

Because GMC is announcing this as a light refresh, it is unlikely that there will be any sweeping changes in other offerings, such as technology, safety, or convenience options.

Drivers are expected to still have access to advanced safety technologies that include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, the new Safety Alert Seat, theft deterrent system, and OnStar’s Automatic Crash Response System, which can notify emergency services should you be involved in a collision that activates the airbag system.
