2021 Mustang Mach-E First Look

OVERVIEW

We are just as excited as you are for the new pony on the market! The all-new Ford Mustang Mach-E is truly in a category all its own and it takes the word crossover to a completely different level. This new Mustang pays tribute in style to the beloved Mach-1 and brings us into the future with performance and technology. The Mach-E combines the look of a compact SUV and streamlines its muscle car look with a coupe-like roof. Depending on the trim level, style and performance can be taken to higher possibilities. Let’s take a closer look at what this all electric Mustang has to offer.

LUXURIOUS STYLINGS

There is a total of 5 different trims and each one has its own unique design preferences. Let’s start with the Select which is your base model. There is a range of options that flow over to the other trim levels, but some options can be upgraded. The Select comes with the Standard battery and RWD, but the eAWD is an option to change to. Other features include 18” carbonized gray aluminum wheels, push-button start, the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Degree Assist 2.0, wireless smartphone charging pad, integrated navigation and satellite radio just to name a few. The difference between the Select and all other trims is it has the capability to get traditional options, however they are confined to the Appearance and Technology packages.

Next up we have the Premium model which has some nice upgrades to that of the Select. The standard battery and RWD are still the staple options for this trim level but you have the ability to upgrade them to the extended battery range and eAWD. Other elevated options include 19” aluminum wheels with a high black gloss, a panoramic fixed glass roof, hands-free foot activated liftgate, heated front seats plus heated steering wheel and 10 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

The Premium also had the option for those that ordered early to have the special trim for the 1^st Edition package. Sadly, there was only a limited number of spots to get the 1^st Edition and they have all been filled. This limited edition comes with the extended battery and eAWD only. The trim level gets an upgraded exterior look with painted sideview mirror caps and painted wheel lip moldings matching the exterior color, and red front and rear brake calipers. There is also one exclusive color just for this model called Grabber Blue Metallic. The inside gets spectacular boost with ActiveX upholstery and exclusive color stitching for contrast along with front door sill scuff plates with 1^st Edition lettering.

Now let’s jump into the grand California Route 1. First and foremost, the vehicle gets an upgrade to the extended battery and RWD only.  Some particular options include the panoramic fixed glass roof, specific California Route 1 badging, black painted door cladding and wheel lip molding. The trim level keeps the 18” aluminum wheels but they are painted high gloss black with a low gloss black aero cover. The California Route 1 also gets its own special ActiveX seating and stitching, exterior trim and flourishes.

Last but certainly not least is the superior GT model. This commanding trim level gets the extended range battery along with the permanent magnet electric dual motor eAWD as its only option. The power this pony holds has been pushed to its limits at an amazing 459 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. This lets the electric GT go from 0-60 mph in about the mid 3 second range, that’s faster than any Mustang except for the GT500. The vehicle comes with 20” cast aluminum wheels and red painted brake calipers along with LED projector headlamps with its own signature lighting.  Inside we find black onyx ActiveX upholstery with Miko Inserts and metallic stitching to add some extra edge to its look. Along with style it has the total technology package including the hands-free foot activated liftgate, heated front seats and steering wheel and the 10 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The Mach-E GT is only obtainable thru reservations for now.

ELECTRIC CHARGE & PERFORMACE

On the Mustang Mach-E there are 2 battery sizes available; the standard battery comes with 68 kWh (288 lithium-ion cells) for approximately 210-230 miles drive time on a full charge allowing for 266 horsepower. The extended range battery is 88 kWh (376 lithium-ion cells) making the drive time about 270-300 miles on a full charge. You can achieve the higher mile range with the RWD, however the eAWD will give you more torque for an added punch in your driving.  When the extended batter is paired with the RWD you get 290 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque yet when if partnered with the eAWD you can achieve 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque, unless you are in the GT of course.  The battery is mounted on the rear axles, which allows for more room in the cabin and is in a waterproof case encompassed by a crash-absorption barrier for added protection. Ford also made sure it used liquid cooling to help keep the battery charge well throughout extreme weather situations.

Along with your vehicle, you will receive a Ford mobile charger and each trim level contains fast charging skills. The mobile charger can add about 30 miles to your drive range in one night with a 120-volt outlet and up to 80% battery life with a 240-volt battery over the same times span. For a more enhanced charging station, you can order a Ford charging station for your home that will be connected by a Ford Certified Electrician that can add up to 32 miles for every hour is charges.

FLAWLESS INTERIOR

As we said before, the Mach-E has some common designs to that of the Mustangs of old but even more similar is the interior. Inside the electric muscle car, you will find a simple, sleek contemporary feel all around. Each interior has ambient lighting that you can tailor to your liking. Every trim level also as the options or comes standard with heated front seats and steering wheel and memory driver’s seat. Even the 10.2” digital dashboard can be arranged to how you like all your vehicles information displayed. In the center, a 15.5” upright touchscreen sits in front of a floating armrest that allows for extra storage between the seats.

The interior as a whole is also similar to an SUV, such as its impeccable seating room and uncompromised rear storage. Not only is there 29.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seating but if folded down, you will have up to just under 60 cubic feet of storage. As an added bonus, with the vehicle’s battery below, there is a 4.7 cubic feet front trunk available. The front trunk is manufactured from water-resistant tough plastic and has the ability to be drained allowing for wet or dry storage for small items that might need some insolation.

LEADING EDGE TECHNOLOGY

Ford’s greatest improvement for this new Mustang is the SYNC 4 Infotainment system. This application lets the driver personalize their drive experience. It can store up to 3 profiles and the enhanced option (4A) can even learn to recognize the profile holders voice. The SYNC 4 will continually advance with its cloud-based system and be integrated with a range of navigation options that will frequently update. This will allow the driver to have beneficial screens and apps at the ready keeping them linked into everything that’s going on. Other beneficial technology includes wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi HotSpot and SiriusXM that’ll come out the Bang & Olufsen sound system. To take advantage of all these options it’s important to have the FordPass Connect installed on your smartphone.

Another technology bonus is the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 system which houses a handful of safety features. Some features are pretty standard and known on most new vehicles today such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-keeping system, rear view camera, reverse sensing system, collisions and brake assist. There is also a unique Hands-Free Mode for specific situations. The Hands-Free Mode can be used in large city areas where it has been clearly mapped out and up to date or for long drives like highways, however the active drive assist must be operating as safety is always priority number 1. If every requirement is achieved a pop-up window shall appear on the dash to activate the Hands-Free Mode. They vehicle will monitor that your head and eyes are still in the proper forward-facing position watching out for any issues that might arise to where you have to resume contro.  Don’t forget the Phone As a Key (PAAK)! This allows for your phone to double as a key not only to unlock or lock your Mach-E but also to open your liftgate and remote start, but you must have FordPass Connect for this option to be available.
