New Documentary About the Buick Grand National!

There are niche markets for nearly every type of entertainment or interest.

For example, some folks are aficionados of everything from cake toppers to porcelain animals.

Focusing on niche interests is a good thing, since it opens up others to the passion which is felt by people who really love this or that. Without a doubt, Black Air: The Buick Grand National Documentary does just that.

It’s impossible to talk about this movie without discussing its director, Andrew Filippone Jr. Although he doesn’t have a very large career, he has done some solid documentary work, beginning with a couple of films about the heavy metal band Metallica in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The film has a nostalgic feel to thanks to incorporating a variety of sit down interviews with people who love the Buick Grand National cut in with pictures of the car itself.

The documentary definitely plays into the niche market but make no mistake, if you’re not a fan of Buick this may not be the film for you. With that said, if you are an avid Buick enthusiast then it’s easily a must see.

Passion projects are a great thing, and this documentary easily communicates that passion to viewers. This documentary seems as bored of itself as its subjects are bored of the car they supposedly love. I want to care about the Buick Grand National, but the film just shows us a bunch of bland old men telling us that the car of their youth was amazing, but never giving us a cogent reason why.
