Roomy Design and Value with the 2018 Buick Regal Sportback and TourX Wagon

European style and performance have paired up nicely in the new Buick Regal Sportback and Regal TourX wagon. The interesting thing is how well they stack up against competitors in both the affordable and luxury arena. We thought we’d take a look at how these cars are priced versus the competition. The findings are definitely interesting.

In some ways, the 2018 Buick Sportback compares to Accord EX sedan. The MSRP hovers over $27,000 for this non-premium sedan. The Accord has its 182-horsepower engine and doesn’t have a hatchback. The Regal Sportback, on the other hand, has a real hatch for greater utility, providing almost double the space you get in the Accord’s trunk. The 1SV trim costs about $26,000 before you add features. This comparison suggests that if you want a premium vehicle, it’s worth it to go straight to Buick and skip the higher trim level of an affordable car.

Let’s look at another example. The all-wheel drive Audi A5 Sportback has a true hatch like the Regal Sportback. The Buick can claim 60.7 cubic feet behind the first row, which is more than the A5 or the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe. Audi A5s run about $43,500 without leather. Of course, you can add lots of options that drive up the sticker price. The Regal Sportback Essence lets you get all-wheel drive and leather seats for around $36,650. With the extra savings, a Buick buyer can choose options and still save money over the basic Audi A5.

If you like the Buick Regal Grand Sport, the closest comparison might just be the Kia Stinger GT. With that model, pricing starts at $42,000. The Grand Sport is able to offer a 310-horspeower engine and Brembo brakes for less than $40,000. Once again, the Buick buyer has wiggle room in the budget to spring for more.
Looking at the Buick Tourx wagon, the most logical mainstream comparisons may be the 175-horsepower Subaru Outback and 170-horsepower VW Alltrack which are priced similarly. The Buick Tourx, a premium offering, has standard all-wheel drive and a 250-horsepower engine. Tourx models has 73 cubic feet behind the front row, more hauling space than the Outback, Audi A4 Allroad, BMW 330i, or Volvo V60 Cross Country.If you go with the fully-loaded Buick Tourx, you actually save money over the BMW 330i. According to the BMW website, the MSRP is $44,450. Standards include SensaTech upholstery and a 248-horsepower engine.
