Sneak Peek: The Return of the GMC Canyon
Those in the market for a new pickup are now able to take a sneak peek at the next generation GMC Canyon.
The Executive Vice President of GM, Dan Ammann, also the company’s Chief Financial Officer, proudly unveiled the new and improved Canyon at the Management Briefing Seminar held by the Center for Automotive Research of Ann Arbor, Michigan recently.
Some of the impressive new features which have been redesigned for the next generation GMC Canyon is sure to provide the company with an even larger reputation for producing what some consider to be the most complete and far-reaching pickups in today’s market. The Canyon’s new design is more versatile and capable than other models, and is far more fuel efficient; a quality many modern vehicle shoppers rely on and one which has kept some shoppers from purchasing pickups in the past.
In a conversation with Edmunds, GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson stated the new line of GMC midsized pickups are directly targeting the inexpensive, fuel efficient Toyota Tacoma. However, there has been no sale price or on-sale date information released to the public, yet. Wilkinson hopes the improved, American designed and engineered Canyon will revitalize the market for mid-sized pickup trucks. GM’s goal is to help customers to find a pickup which will meet all their needs while providing an alternative to the long popular full-sized pickup.
Production for the improved next generation GMC Canyon is scheduled to begin at the Wentzville, Missouri GM assembly center in 2014. GM invested $122-million into their Wentzville stamping and assembly plant. The investment could either obtain or create 55 jobs, a small but welcomed number in an unsteady economic climate that is jittery with unemployment. New construction will bring the size of the plant p to 114,000 square feet. This injection of funds comes after the initial $380-million GM investment that allowed for the design and production of the brand new GMC Canyon, and other revolutionary new GM vehicles.
GMC has been known for high quality vehicles since they began production in 1902. The company was built round producing innovative vehicles that had something more to offer than their competition, and that mission continues with the design of more fuel efficient, eco-friendly, and buyer-friendly trucks.
