Vehicle Stuck in the Snow? No Problem.

Regardless of who you are, everyone has experienced having a vehicle stuck in the snow at one time or another, and if you haven’t, it’s only a matter of time before you do.

Unfortunately, it seems the only time a vehicle gets stuck (other than when you’re hauling a sled with your car to your next big hill adventure) is when you have to be somewhere at a specific time.

Thankfully, if a vehicle is stuck in the snow, there are a few ways in which a person can get it unstuck.

Grab a shovel!

If a vehicle is stuck in the snow, one of the first things a person should do is grab a shovel and get to work! Start by digging around the vehicle. A large snow shovel will work best, but if a large snow shovel is not available, one with a sharp blade will also work well. The most important places to dig are behind and in front of the wheels. Try and get as much snow as possible out from around the vehicle. The more snow that is removed from the vehicle, the better chance the car will become unjammed. If possible, spread some rock salt around the vehicle as well.

Be patient

Once you’ve removed the snow from around the vehicle, try to drive the vehicle from the snow. It’s important to not press the accelerator too hard. If you slam your foot down on it, you risk spinning out of control. Also, you can start to make things worse as well. Once you start to move, it’s important to not turn the wheels to the left or right. Instead, try and keep the wheels straight.

Rock the vehicle

If the vehicle is still stuck after trying to drive it forward, try rocking the vehicle. This can be done by putting the vehicle in drive and then reverse. By moving it back and forth, you may be able to get some momentum going, helping you get out of your cold wintery jam.
