What's GM Up To in Tennessee?

American car manufacturer General Motors has announced it will be injecting the company’s Spring Hill, Tennessee manufacturing facility with an impressive investment of $167-million.

This investment comes after GM already sunk $187-million dollars into a project at the facility; a project which has yet to be named says official from the Spring Hill, TN factory which was once the home of Saturn.

Even more, experts are expecting the money to be used to cover the costs of a new line of midsized Buick automobiles. This project could bring an estimated 1,800 jobs to the manufacturing plant. Figuratively, according to these experts, the over $350-million dollar investment will end up covering two separate projects.

The first project theory revolves around plans for a new Buick midsized crossover vehicle – the Buick Anthem.

The Anthem (other names under consideration include: Envision, Enspire) is similar in size to the Encore and Enclave but smaller than the Terrain or Equinox. The Anthem will reportedly be the first vehicle to be released on Buick’s new and improved D2XX platform, the platform which will take the place of Delta and Theta.

Since the Spring Hill, TN plant is the location where new Chevy Equinox models are built, the theory of a new Buick being funded at the plant is a strong one, to say the least. As for the second possible project, experts are having a harder time unveiling its mystery. It’s not likely GM will create two separate midsized vehicle funding programs and end up with multiple new crossovers. Because of this, some hopeful experts think there may be a car available on the D2XX platform, sooner than later.

So we’re looking at the possibility of one new crossover and one new car.

What’s not to like?

General Motors, one of the leading, fastest growing auto manufacturers in the world, produces vehicles with partners in 30 countries under the brands Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Holden, GMC, Jiefang, Isuzu, Vauxhall, Opel, and Wuling.

The president of General Motors North America, Mark Reuss, stated that the announcement of the two projects and investments “recognizes the commitment of Spring Hill employees.” It is obvious that the teamwork of the crew at the Tennessee plant more than contributes to the high quality vehicles customers of GM have come to expect.

Hopefully after a period of anticipation, General Motors fans (especially loyal Buick drivers) can look forward to the release of the state of the art Anthem (Enspire, Envision) midsized vehicle.

Something innovative is cooking at GM…

Could it be an introduction to a new platform, the D2XX, a new crossover vehicle with breathtakingly modern design elements?

It is a theory definitely worth entertaining.
