2017 GMC Acadia Safety Technologies
Totally redesigned for the 2017 model year, the all new GMC Acadia boasts a wealth of comfort and convenience features, including a well appointed, spacious interior with a standard wireless hotspot. In addition to these features, this model introduces a 360 degree camera to improve driver visibility and increase the car’s already impressive safety profile. Read on to learn more about this feature and the other safety technology integrated in the new 2017 Acadia.
The Acadia was engineered with a focus on active safety technologies that provide driver assistance to prevent worst case scenarios, powered by a sophisticated network of cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to help the car serve as an extra set of eyes and ears to detect potential dangers. The available Surround Vision Camera, new for this model year, is actually a set of four cameras that provide a full view of the entire scope around your vehicle, allowing you to navigate with confidence and avoid obstacles.
The camera also includes a side blind zone alert, which displays a symbol on the outside mirror when there is another car or obstacle in your blind spot. If your turn signal is activated on that side, the alert symbol will flash to alert you not to change lanes. By the same token, the front pedestrian detection system alerts you to people crossing your path, and will automatically apply the brakes if have not already done so and are in danger of hitting a pedestrian.
Not only are the alerts visual, you can also opt for the innovative Safety Alert Driver Seat. When an alert is triggered, the seat vibrates in conjunction with the symbol display to alert you to potential hazards. If the hazard is on the left, the left side of the seat vibrates, or the right side for hazards on the right.
Beyond the available safety technologies, the 2017 GMC Acadia comes standard with front automatic braking if you’re in danger of a collision and have not yet engaged the brakes; IntelliBeam headlights that come on immediately at night and in inclement weather; front and rear parking assist; rear cross traffic alert; lane keep assist; and a following distance indicator that alerts you when you’re driving too close to the car behind you.
While the 2017 Acadia has not yet been crash tested, it is expected to meet or exceed the ratings earned with the 2016 model year, which received a five star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
