2017 GMC Acadia Sheds Weight, Gains Features and MPG’s

The 2017 Acadia retains the trademark toughness that GMC vehicles are known for, but it now comes in a smaller, lower and much lighter package. GMC somehow managed to take little interior space away from the driver and passengers while tidying up the outside dimensions. This all translates into even more driving and handling fun along with the functionality that comes with a three-row crossover sports utility vehicle.

Weight and Dimensions

By reducing the overall length by a little over seven inches, the width by three and a half inches, and the height by almost four inches, GMC managed to lop off a whopping seven hundred pounds of vehicle weight. This has turned the 2017 GMC Acadia into a road-hugging monster with an extremely nice power to weight ratio. Going to soccer practice, the grocery store, or onto the winding roads of a family vacation have never been so much fun.

Powertrain

A new 3.6 liter V6 is available for the 2017 model, and an economical 4-cylinder engine is also available. The V6 puts out a hefty 310 horsepower, and with 700 fewer pounds to pull around, there’s a nice up-tick in fuel economy to go along with the improved power performance. A six-speed automatic transmission transfers the power to the wheels for both engines.

Features

GMC has piled on the safety features for 2017. In the new category the Acadia has an abundance of assist features in the lighting, braking, lane control and camera mode systems. These new features nicely complement the full-coverage interior airbag systems.

The 2017 GMC Acadia comes in front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and all-terrain trim packages. All three options come with normal, sport, and tow modes. The twin-clutch system in the all-terrain trim package gives the Acadia even more dexterity in off-road situations.

Styling

The rounded rear side windows and the squared edges of the wheel surrounds are reminders of previous Acadia models, but the rest of the exterior styling, with its space-age headlights and tapered lines, gives it a more refined and modern look and feel. Even with all of the smoother lines, the large front grill and prominent badge makes it clear that this is a GMC product. The interior is still classic GMC that carries an understated luxury along with just the right amount of workingman toughness GMC is known for.
