Amazon In Car Delivery ServiceAmazon’s efforts to integrate itself into people’s day to day life is evident from its range of products and services like the Echo speaker to the Dash tap-to-buy buttons. The newest addition – Amazon Car Delivery System will now enable Amazon in delivering the packages directly to your car.

After joining hands with GMC and Volvo motors, the in-car delivery system is now up and running for a wide range of GMC and Volvo cars. With this feature, Amazon expects the customers to be comfortable with the fact that an unknown individual will now be granted access to their car.

Testing for the in-car delivery program took place in Germany in collaboration with Deutsche Post AG’s DHL and Audi.

In the recent past, Amazon also introduced the Amazon Key Program based home delivery system which ensured that the delivery driver would enter the residence of the customer to deliver the packages. There almost always exists a robust security setup in a residence which enables the buyer in monitoring the delivery of a package. However, it is impossible to monitor a delivery driver’s movements in and around your vehicle.

To enable Amazon’s Car Delivery option, one must be an Amazon Prime member, download and connect the Amazon Key app to their car service provider’s app such as the OnStar or Volvo’s OnCall.

For delivery, one must park one’s car in a convenient location not far from the delivery address, like a public parking lot which can be easily reached by the delivery driver. The customers get a 4-hour delivery window and notifications while the delivery driver accesses the car, places the package inside the car and leaves.

Amazon makes sure that the location, as well as the package, is confirmed before the delivery driver remotely accesses and unlocks the vehicle. The car gets automatically locked after a certain period of time if in case it wasn’t locked post delivery.

The financial details of the deal were left undisclosed as of now.

The Amazon Car Delivery program is the tip of the iceberg. Underneath the iceberg exists the ambition to redefine and dominate the logistics. Now Amazon not only has the control over the final step of dropping off a product, but it can also act as a shuttle.

Every car manufacturer is installing a wide array of technical features and on the other hand, the customers are becoming frustrated and clueless with basic functions like configuring Bluetooth. In such a situation, the success of Amazon’s Car Delivery program is uncertain.

The Amazon Car Delivery Program is now available in all GM and Volvo car model-year 2015 or newer. With all these features being offered at no additional costs to existing customers and a differentiating factor for prospective customers, these companies now certainly have an edge over the market. GM, which is one of the largest automakers in terms of sales has always been adding many technical enhancements so as to attract and retain the younger buyers.
